Despacito from Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi The song, as well as Daddy Yankee became the song most streamed at the time within less than six weeks. It was a mixture of pop music and reggaeton not only brought renewed interest in reggaeton but also attracted attention towards Latin music more generally. In 2015 there were only two mostly Spanish-language songs on Billboard's Top 100 and in 2016 there were four. The Despacito song was at its peak popularity in 2017 however 19 mostly Spanish songs made it into the top 100 as well, and by 2020 there were 41 such songs. Following Justin Bieber's bilingual remix of Despacito (2017) famous musicians soon started collaborating with reggaeton performers including Drake along with Bad Bunny on MIA (2018) as well as Madonna with Maluma on Medellin (2019). From the beginning of the year 2020, some musicians from reggaeton felt dissatisfied with the direction the genre was shifting toward mainstream. Rauw Alajandro is a participant in a fresh generation of musicians who are determined to shift the course.
